Reflection on the O in WOVE
Throughout the semester, our class has presented two presentations with a visual for each. The presentations were each to be five minutes long, including a detailed explanation as to why we chose the topic and visual/s that we did. For my first presentation, Assignment #4, I prepared a PowerPoint slideshow that consisted of my thesis from my paper, a two minute video that displayed statistics and facts about my topic, and images displaying and explaining the topic that I chose. For my second presentation, Assignment #5, I created my own visual using poster board, colored construction paper, markers, glitter, and glue. I also created a PowerPoint slideshow to highlight the things I discussed in my presentation for Assignment #5. For my Assignment #4 presentation, there are a few things I would have done differently, first I would have timed out the entire presentation better. I went over the allotted five minutes by almost another five minutes, making my presentation a lot longer than it was meant to be. In addition to that, I would take out some of the slides that showed examples of the topic that I was presenting. They were a bit repetitive and took up more time that didn't need to be taken up. For my Assignment #5 presentation, I did a much better job with my timing, only going over the allotted five minutes by forty-five seconds. However, I felt that my presentation was a little rushed because of it, and that I wasn't able to put in all of the information that I wanted to present. During the presentation, I forgot to discuss more about where my visual would be seen or advertised, and I also had some trouble pulling up a website that showed a perfect example of the issue that I was presenting. For future presentations, I need to make sure and run-through my entire presentation multiple times before I present, and make sure that all of my links are ready to go and working the way I want them to. Overall, I feel that I did a nice job with both of my presentations. I dressed professionally for both of them, I stayed composed and spoke in proper english form, not using any slang or repetitive filler words such as, "like" or "umm," I didn't distract or pull away my audience's attention from my presentation by doing distracting hand gestures, and I spoke with excitement and enthusiasm about my topic, making sure to keep my audience's interest and attention. My main points of improvement, will be to organize my future presentations to better fit the allotted time frame, stay calm and collected throughout the entire presentation (even if there are complications), and possibly write down on a notecard the key aspects I would like to touch on in my presentations.
